Frequently Asked Questions (FAQS)
Q: Are the trails that are selected for wheelchairs selected based on ADA wheelchair accessibility standards?
A: The ADA standards for wheelchair accessibility are strict standards pertaining to specific trail lengths. These standards apply to slopes, surface conditions and cross-slope. While the trails contained in The Original Ultimate Trail Guide where captured using GPS devices, they were not surveyed and we did not measure the trail cross-slope. While we have limited the trails to paved and hard packed trails with an average slope of not more then 8.33 degrees, we cannot guarantee the trails will suitable for all wheelchair users nor can we guarantee the slope or surface conditions will not exceed ADA standards for any given length.
Q: How is the trail level of difficulty determined?
A: The level of difficulty for a trail segment is based on 4 factors: your activity, the average slope of the trail, the width of the trail and the surface type of the trail.
The Original Ultimate Trail Guide program takes into account all four of these factors when selecting trail segments. When using Trail Guide 411, if you search for a trail by name or click on the map your activity is assumed to be hiking. Hence, the level of difficulty is based on hiking.
